Who We Are

Speech and Language Professional

My Name is Robert Bennett III, MS, CCC-SLP, I am the current owner of Power Talk Communication, LLC. I am a native of Columbus, Mississippi. I graduated from Jackson State University with a Bachelor of Science in Communicative Disorders. I furthered my education by obtaining a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. With ASHA certification and over 25 years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist, I am very experienced in early interventions for developing children. I also provide education for teachers and staff to identify normal child development milestones in order to help identify those children who may need early intervention, and I also provide staff support for inclusion techniques in the classroom for language development

Other areas of Speech Language Pathology that I have extensive knowledge includes dysphagia related disorders as well as speech, language, hearing and cognition deficits in adults. My clinical involvement stems from a variety of settings that include acute, subacute, inpatient, outpatient, skilled nursing as well as private practice. I have served the surrounding communities and have established strong working relationships with patients, families and other health related professionals.

I am a Speech Language Pathologist who goes above and beyond therapy to help people achieve the power of communication and quality of life they want. For people who want help with a speech or swallowing dysfunction, Power Talk Communication offers a caring and compassionate approach to those who may need speech and hearing services to ensure an improved quality of life. I am honored to present my services to this community with the expectation of empowering, educating, and enhancing the lives of those in need.

CONSIDERING SPEECH THERAPY?

Speech Therapy for Kids!!!

Is your child struggling in school because his speech is unclear or she can’t follow directions? Are you worried your little one’s communication skills aren’t as well developed as other children in the same age group? Is someone you love avoiding social situations because of swallowing, voice, or memory problems? Speech therapy can help.

Welcome to Power Talk Communication LLC. This is a therapist-owned private practice offering treatment for pediatrics and adults, in multiple settings. I am a highly trained speech language pathologists who work with you to develop solutions. I never stop looking out for your best interests, using my expertise to guide you, step by step, through honest and realistic therapy. Through speech therapy, I help people achieve the quality of life they want.

My Response to COVID-19

My top priority is the health and well-being of my clients, staff and community. To that end I am continually adapting the way  I provide safe and effective services for you and your family.  Teletherapy services are now available. I encourage each existing client to try at least one teletherapy session to see if it can be an effective solution for you.  Being familiar with teletherapy allows for a flexible hybrid approach when needed to allow for continuity of your speech therapy services despite changing risk levels and personal situations.  For clients who do not prefer teletherapy or whose insurance does not cover telehealth, I am offering face to face visits on a limited basis.  I will gradually increase my face to face therapy availability over the coming weeks.

I have also developed new operating procedures  to provide a safe environment for each of our families.  I offer health screenings before any services are provided.  You will notice that I am only using materials which can be easily sanitized and treatment areas are sanitized between sessions.  I will be wearing masks and I encourage you to do the same during portions of your therapy services.   My goal is to operate in compliance with the CDC and Georgia Department of Health’s safety standards.  Despite all of the changes, I believe I can offer a productive and engaging therapy experience.  Whether it is on screen or in person, I look forward to seeing you soon!

Thank you for your patience and support during this challenging time.

Our Therapy Services

PEDIATRIC SERVICES

Children experience speech and language difficulties for a variety of reasons. It’s never too early to find out if your child has a speech or language problem, and the only way to know for certain is with a speech evaluation. Here are some questions you can ask yourself as you try to decide.

  • Is your child’s speech not as clear as other children’s the same age?
  • Does your child have difficulty putting their thought into words?
  • Does your child stutter or stumble over words?
  • Can you see your child’s tongue coming forward during speech?
  • Is your child’s voice hoarse or raspy?
  • Does your child avoid social situations?
  • Does your child have difficulty following verbal directions?
  • Does your child have difficulty remembering or understanding what they read?
  • Did your child’s school determine that speech therapy isn’t necessary because your child’s speech problem does not negatively impact academics?
  • Do breathing problems for your young athlete not improve with asthma medication?
  • As a concerned parent, are you feeling overwhelmed and not sure what to do next?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, your child may benefit from a speech evaluation, and possibly therapy. I am an experienced pediatric speech pathologists. I am here to help children of all ages. I want to hear your child’s story and help them on the right track to success. Call today to schedule an evaluation.

ADULT SERVICES

Adult speech therapy can help improve capabilities and confidence for persons with speech, language, cognition or swallowing problems. Adults may need speech therapy for a variety of reasons. It’s never too early to start speech therapy when your communication or swallowing is affected.

Sometimes speech and swallowing problems have persisted for a while and therapy has either not been tried or wasn’t completed during previous attempts. Many adults feel it’s “too late” to change or improve speech or swallowing problems but this rarely is the case. Here are some questions you can ask yourself as you try to decide.

  • Do you cough or choke when eating or drinking?
  • Is your speech slurred?
  • Do you struggle to remember to take your medication or remember important dates?
  • Do you stutter or stammer when speaking?
  • Is your voice hoarse or raspy?
  • Is your voice getting softer and softer?
  • Can you not think of words you want to say?
  • Do you have problems understanding what others are saying to you?
  • Are you or a loved one avoiding social situations because of communication or swallowing problems?

If you answered yes to any of these questions for yourself or a loved one, speech therapy may help.  I am an  experienced speech pathologists and I want to hear your story and help improve your communication, cognition and swallowing abilities. Call today to schedule an evaluation. speech therapy for adults

Teletherapy

Power Talk Communication has the capability to meet the needs of  clients through a virtual clinic for those who prefer telehealth services. I am offering online intake for new teletherapy clients.

  • Teletherapy visits are speech therapy sessions conducted using a teleconference or synchronous audio and video communication in real time.  These sessions will be much like your face-to-face visits and address the same goals however you will see your therapist on your computer, tablet or smart phone.  Don’t worry, it’s pretty easy and I will walk you through everything when you have your first session. Most insurance plans have indicated that they will cover teletherapy while the COVID19 social distancing recommendations are in place. We encourage you to check with your insurance company to see if they are extending teletherapy coverage under your plan.  You can ask if they cover speech therapy (CPT code 92507) by telehealth. We will also be completing insurance verification for scheduled teletherapy visits.  Companies that have publicly announced teletherapy coverage include Anthem BC/BS, United Healthcare, Tricare, CareSource, and United Healthcare Community Plan.
